Wireless Printer Set-Up Question?

I am going to be buying a wireless printer that I can print to from my laptop. I have read almost everywhere that you need a router for your wireless printer to work. However, my laptop doesn't run off a router, we have a home computer that has a phone jack and all that confusing stuff but basically we have wifi, just not a router. Will I be able to get a wireless printer and have it work wirelessly still?
