Would rains during the day make the nights warmer?

When I was in Thailand during an outdoor trip. I remember it was scorching hot during the day and freezing cold at night. However, when it rained during the day the nights were much warmer. my theory is that the sun would heat up the overcast clouds during the day and the rain would carry this heat down to ground making the nights warmer. Is this theory correct?
